Ingredients

  • 400 gm mixed dal (after soaking)

  • 2 large onions finely chopped


  • 3 large tomatoes chopped


  • 3 tbsp grated ginger


  • 2 tbsp minced garlic


  • 2 green chilly finely chopped


  • 2 bay leaves


  • 1/2 tsp asafoetida (hing)


  • 1 tsp turmeric powder (haldi)


  • 2 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder


  • 2 tsp crushed kasoori methi


  • 1 tsp panch phoron


  • 1n1/2 tsp cumin powder


  • 1 tbsp coriander powder


  • 1 tsp curry powder


  • 1 tsp garam masala powder

Directions

  • Soak the mixed dal overnight. Clean, wash and pressure cook with turmeric and salt.
  • In a wok heat oil. Add bay leaf, hing, panch phoron and splutter them.
  • Add chopped onion and cook till translucent.Mix ginger, garlic, chopped tomatoes and adjust the salt.
  • Cover and cook in low flame till tomatoes are soft and mushy, and oil is separated.
  • Add cumin powder, coriander powder, crushed kasoori methi, curry powder, and garam masala powder. Cook in low flame till oil separates.

  • Mix the boiled mixed dal with cooked masala properly. Adjust the gravy by adding warm water and cook for 2 minutes.
  • Mixed dal tadka is ready to serve.
